Member's Meeting 4 - November 2023
Member’s Meeting held following the Communal day at 12.30 on 4th November 2023.
- Secretary sent email to partial list, members agreed Chairperson may send out follow-up email and further emails with updates.
- Inspections have be delayed till next year owing to the mix up in emails – however a basic walk round and message to members who need to maintain their sheds for winter would be sent.
- Maintenance Officer Role Still Vacant
- Membership Secretary role soon to be vacant from 17 November 2023 – our thanks to David for his help and assistance over the years.
- Updates made to Rules and Constitution and now available online.
- Vacant Plot clarification – a plot that falls vacant is the property of GCC, managed by CAA and no member should trespass on a vacant plot unless discussed with Committee to avoid potentially trespassing on a plot already given over to a member.
- Glasgow Allotment Rules and Regulations update for consultation
- Latest email from GCC notifies Committees of Allotments new rules and guidelines will be sent out on their role and function at allotments.
- A suggestion was made to use members from other allotments to carry out inspections at Croftburn Allotments.
- Rubbish in the trailer needs to be reduced to smaller bags to be removed by members.
- Water will be turned off at the end of the week for winter – 12/11/2023
- Number of vacant plots – 7 Micro plots currently
- Clarification to be made to council on increasing the size of polytunnels on allotments to allow for longer growing seasons
The next meeting to be held for members will be the AGM 2023 – Date and time to be confirmed.

CAA had a reply from GCC regarding polytunnel sizes. Please see the below response for further guidance. These are issued from the ‘Draft’ Allotment Rule proposed for implementation on the 01 April 2024.
GCC Response to Polytunnel sizes on Plots:
RESPONSE from GCC
“With regards to your polytunnel query – the Allotment Rules & Regulations Consultation Draft states the following:
10.1 No structure can be erected on an Allotment Plot without the prior written permission of the Council. Such structures can include but are not limited to sheds, glasshouses or polytunnels,
10.2 The erection of any building or structure must be in accordance with planning legislation and any materials used must be of suitable durability and give cognisance to carbon neutral principles.
10.3 The maximum size of a shed or similar structure should not exceed 2.5 metres x 1.8 metres x approximately 2 metres height on a 125m² or larger plot and should not exceed 1.8 metres x 1.2 metres x approx. 2 metres height on an Allotment Plot smaller than 125m2.
Section 6.10 which states: Any permitted structures, buildings and paths must not occupy more than 25% of the overall Plot area.”
